Diwali - Festival of lights

It's that time of the year again fireworks, mouth watering sweets and a wonderful evening with your entire family. Its DIWALI - Festival of Lights and I wish everyone a wonderful, colorful and safe diwali.

As a kid I could hardly wait for Diwali, I used to go shopping with my dad to buy crackers, and I remember arguing with him about 'Whether I was too young for something I wanted real bad'. Mom used to make my favorite 'moti chur ka laddoo', we used to perform Lakshmi pooja and other rituals, wear new clothes, eat my favorite sweets and then hit the road for fireworks. We always had our parents watching our backs, and I must say diwali's has been so much fun I really miss being there with my family.

Anyways enough nostalgia for now, and for people not familiar with diwali there is plenty of information online. It never hurts to know what's behind the most loved festival of India.

I again wish you and your family a happy and safe diwali. Posted by Picasa

Trip to Ottawa

Canadian Parliament Posted by Picasa

I recently drove to Ottawa, Canada to get my H1 visa. It was a great 8 hour drive from Detroit, the scenery was great and the roads way better than Detroit :-).

It was a beautiful day in Ottawa and I managed to get some decent shots of the place. I recommend Ottawa by the river for anyone planning a trip there (ofcourse not in winter). Its pretty cheap and you get a guided tour of the city's attractions.

Cars, Cars and more Cars

Cars, cars and more cars thats what I see online and onroad these days (time to get one I guess). Last month I drove my roommate's BMW 323i, now I know why these cars are expensive and so0 popular, I must say they are worth every dollar you spend. It drives great and the interior is a feast to the eyes and the options never heard of in any other cars (I might be exaggerating). Was a wonderful experience driving a BMW for the first time, maybe if my pocket permits I will get one of those pretty sooooon....

I have been visiting www.vehix.com lately to check out the cars, you can choose and build the car as per your taste and also check out the prices, pretty coool site with great graphics engine.

Time for Tennis

Getting ready for tennis !!!!!!!!

Do I see few raised eyebrows, yeah yeah I know I suck at it.
But it's never late to learn right !!! I was really bad initially
but now after few days into it now I can hit the ball clean
enough to send it to the other side.

This has also turned out to be a good pastime and also helps me
keep fit. Let's see how far this new found interest of mine goes.
Will keep posting and soon I guess I can claim I play tennis :-)

Been to Chicago

I have been to Chicago for a couple of days, went to see my childhood friend Kishore. I had a great time, I have visited the Aurora temple (pretty impressive), it happened to be Sri Rama Navami and they were performing the Kalyanam, we couldn't stay for long but got a glimpse.

We then headed towards the downtown area, our first stop was the Sears Towers (been to Petronas in 2002), now I have seen the second and third tallest buildings in the world. The view was breath taking from the observatory on the 101st floor. The best part was the expanded downtown with lake michigan in the background (we were lucky was a clear day).

Then we took a guided tour of the Chicago downtown, was worth every penny we spent. We drove through most of the places (lack of time), the tour lasted for 2 1/2 hours. We got the best view of the downtown from the Planeterium, I was spell bound by the view, was pretty amazing. I recommend it to everyone going to Chicago.

Then we drove through the millenium park ($450 millon man that's too much for a park), then we went thru Navy Pier, Hancock Center, Water Tower Mall (BTW Oprah lives on the top floor), River front ........

We were starving by the time we toured the downtown, there was only one place that could satisfy our appetite - DEVON STREET. For a while I felt I was in India, there were too many places, we had CHOICE that day which was never heard off in smaller cities like Indianapolis. We decided to crash at Sukhadia's, nice place, good ambience and great food....
